colorado: indian paint mines

Cup Of Jo

Y’all Andrew found us the most jaw dropping adventure. Bless his soul.

Today’s destination was the Indian Paint Mines in Calhan, CO. Yes! You heard right, INDIAN PAINT MINES. I had no idea what to expect but one thing’s for sure, it did not disappoint one bit. It was such a unique, bizarre place but I was completely dumbfounded by how cool it was to be standing there.  I’m still left in awe just daydreaming about it.

It’s about 1.5 hour drive from where I live and it’s in the direction of Colorado Springs. For half the drive you’re cruising through miles and miles of land with houses acres apart and horses grazing the grass. It’s the most country I’ve experienced in Colorado yet, but I loved the drive. Long straight roads, miles of greenery ahead, and it was such a smooth drive.

My favorite thing about this place is that it’s free to visit! Once you get there, theres a parking lot or you can park alongside the road.  Do yourself a favor and park as close to the entranceway because from the entrance its a bit of an uphill walk to get to the good stuff. TIP: Bring water! But once you get there you have this beautiful terrain before you and you can explore all of it.

As I said in my Instagram post, I really have no words for this place so instead I’ll just have to show you.

A true must see, I highly recommend!

xo, JJ
