favorite hair products

Hi friends!

Today I’m sharing my favorite go-to hair products that I’ve been using religiously for the past year or so. I’ve been a bleach blondie for the past 6 years (mind you my roots are the deepest darkest brown) so you can imagine the damage I’ve accrued over time. And that is no disrespect to my hair dressers because I full on understand the harsh reality of bleach on your hair overtime, its inevitable. So I’ve really honed in on products that work for my hair, and y’all it’s really all about trial and error, but I’ve concocted this perfect regime that’s been working for me. My hair is healthier, shinier, and I’ve been seeing regrowth in areas that I’ve had breakage from the damage. I’m hoping that some of these products will sound like a solution for your problem areas and help resolve it as it has done for me.

My hair: I have pretty thick strands of hair, but not to say my hair is “thick”. Don’t get me wrong my hair is considerably thick but not compared to what it once was so maybe I’m just cynical ha! But needless to say it was VERY dry, coarse, had split ends, dead ends, breakage. And don’t get me wrong I took VERY good care of my hair and since I did, I was able to keep the blonde for as long as I did. Can we just pay a little homage to my blonde right now, I loved and miss my blonde every day (but I love the change).

Shampoo and Conditioner

I use Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Replenishing Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner

To clarify, I use both the shampoo and conditioner so yes, separately they’re a little pricey but Ulta will occasionally have sales on them so look out for that! I give credit to my best friend, Britt, she put me on this brand and I’m so happy because it helped with the dry coarseness of my hair. I’ve been using this line for probably the past two years at this point. I’ve tried others within this line and while it does work, I like the scent of this one more.

Purple Shampoo:

I’ve really loved KÉRASTASE Blond Absolu Anti-Brass Purple Shampoo, I’ve been using it the past year. Although I’ve gone brunette, the blonde definitely still comes back through so believe it or not I still use purple shampoo at least once a week. Britt got me onto a new one that I’m currently using and just bought a second bottle- Oligo Professionnel Blacklight Violet Shampoo which I purchase right off of Amazon, but I believe they sell it at Walmart? I think? I’ve tried MANY purple shampoos those two are my favorites thus far, my third favorite would be Pravana The Perfect Blonde Shampoo.

Leave In Conditioner/Heat Protectant

The one I’m currently using and will rebuy and rebuy again is the ALTERNA HAIRCARE CAVIAR Anti-Aging Replenishing Moisture Priming Leave-In Conditioner. I’ll put this in my hair right after a shower let it air dry. My hair now air dries smooth, which is HUGE since it used to dry and be coarse.

Alternative: I’ve tried the Living Proof Restore Perfecting Spray that I liked but between the two I’d rather use the Alterna.

The one and only OLAPLEX No. 7 Bonding Oil. I’ve heard nothing but great things about Olaplex and this No. 7 Bonding Oil was recommended to me by my hair dresser. I’ve heard of it before but never considered purchasing (in retrospect, it was awfully foolish of me) but WOW I love this product. Just know that a little goes a long way. My hair has improved significantly and I’m certain it’s because of this. If there’s one product out of all the products listed, I recommend this especially if you have damaged hair. While I let my hair air dry when its damp/dry I’ll dab some on my hands and run it all throughout my hair. I also use it the night before I know I’m going to shower I throw it in my ends (on dry hair) and sleep on it over night.

Alternative: Trader Joe’s Shea Butter and Coconut Oil Hair Serum, that’s such a goodie. It’s a little thicker and I always use it on wet/damp hair. Once my hair air dried, I’d do a droplet on my fingertips and rub it into my ends.  Also Trader Joe’s Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is so good for a mask or to use on your ends.

Dry Shampoo

My holy grail product is Batiste Original Dry Shampoo – Clean & Classic. I’m basic and go with the original. But to be fair, I do like the smell of it and this one in particular takes to my hair very well. I like to go at least 3 days before washing my hair but with this I could honestly go 4 and maybe even 5.

Alternative: Britt who has a completely different hair texture as me uses Batiste Volumizing Dry Shampoo, the one with the pink graphics and she SWEARS by it. That one weighs my hair down but I think it’s because I have thicker hair strands, whereas Britt has thinner hair strands. So pick yours accordingly!

This is soo important for everyone! I, in particular take gummy versions because I cringe at swallowing pills. I also heavily rely on getting a dose of Biotin. I take Hair, Skin, Nails gummies 2 a day and I’ve honest to God have seen hair regrowth in the areas where I felt like I was lacking or had bad breakage. It’s FINALLY growing back and I’m thrilled.

There you have it, these are my hair product testimonials. I love them, they’ve helped my hair so much and maybe they’ll help yours too. If you have any questions about them I’m happy to share my opinion and I’m always open to trying new things so share your favorites too!

xo, JJ
